Exercise 1.1 - Acquisition/ Downloading

For Thursday class (July 1, 2004)

Instructions: You need to download the following files in your Movies Folder:

(1) 4 video clips (.mov), preferably movie trailers [15 points]
(2) 5 audio clips in AIFF format [10 points]
(3) 2 audio clips in MP3 format [5 points]
(4) 2 audio clips in WAV format [5 points]
(5) 5 graphics in JPG format [5 points]
(6) 5 graphics in GIF format [5 points]

(7) Import all of the above files in the Browser. Use File Menu, select Import.
(8) Create three (3) Bins in the Browser. Note: a BIN is a "folder" in the browser where you keep all your files for purposes of organizing your clips.
(9) Rename the 3 Bins into first "Video", the second bin to "Audio" and the third to "Graphics".
(10) Drag all video clips inside the Video bin.
(11) Drag all audio clips to Audio bin.
(12) Drag all graphics to Graphics bin.

Save your file and close your project before quitting Final Cut Pro. Shut down your iMac.

Exercise 1.2

Hey, people. I am not yet home in Davao, so I have set up a blog for our class. While I am away, all instructions for the class will posted here.

For my Wednesday Class (June 30) here are the instructions:

Open your workstations. Run Final Cut Pro 3.0 application.
You have downloaded already some video clips, graphics and pdf files last week. These files are already in your browser. I will check later whether you have followed my instructions which were given to you last Friday.

Now here are the next things that we will learn:

BROWSER: The browser acts as your reference storage area. All audio clips (with a speaker symbol), video clips (with a film symbol) and graphic files (with a alpha film symbol) are stored in your browser. The browser has 41 columns that tell you about the content and characteristics of the file. Try to scroll the browser to your right, you can see the column with its heading. Some columns can have theirs value altered according to you desire (v.g. reel number, scene number, and label, etc.). You can also rearrange the heading of columns, just drag and drop the place where you want it to be placed next. You can also re-arrange the clips either by descending or ascending order. Just click the heading.

(1) Now, take note of each audio clips and notice their column contents.
(2) Take note also of a video clip and notice its difference from the audio clip.
(3) Take note also of a graphic file (jpg) and notice its difference from the audio clip.

In this blog, you write your reply [COMMENTS] with your name on it. Write in your reply the difference between an audio clip and a video clip. Write all distinctions in this site so I can check your answers. This is graded. The time and the date of posting will correspond to your class time. No posting outside the class period.
